Mox Jet

Obviously, you already know my by my pen name of Mox Jet.  You may or may not know me by my actual name of Mike Garvey.  I'm a 16 year old high school junior from Southern Westchester county in New York State.  I like to keep myself busy in many different ways, most notably Fencing and (duh) writing Fan Fiction.  Naturally, this leaves little room for excess stuff, but I cram is in there anyway in the form of Debate Club, various musical endeavors and, most new to the list, creating and managing this web page.  Trust me, it took a lot longer to make than you could possibly guess (I have a completely new level of respect for you, Icy).

My writing is basically a culmination of an over active imagination and a lack of better things to do.  Most of my writing, as I've said elsewhere on this page, is based loosely on Square's masterpiece, Chrono Trigger, and the faniverse that I write within.  If you want to know why I picked up writing to begin with, I ended up writing a paper for English about it.  This can be found the library section.

I really love my writing.  It serves as much better escape from reality than most people take (drinking seems to be a pretty popular one).  It's a great form of expression, and it's really says a lot about how one spends their time.  On that note, I do not do poetry, and chances are if you're one of those people who writes and does do poetry, you don't do poetry either.  I have yet to see a decent poem out of a fanfiction author, myself included, and so I stay away from it.  Further on that track, I don't really do short works.  I have nothing against them, in fact, I'd like to end up doing some.  I just get ideas that become to drawn out to contain in less than 20 pages.

My writing is a mix of science fiction and fantasy.  Basically, I'm into spaceships and guns, but I really love swords and magic, too.  So, I just threw them all into my books, added some time travel, and viola!  Somehow, it all came together in my first book, The Planeswalkers which you can find on this page.  I still don't know how I ended up writing a novel before the age of 17, but hey, it's pretty cool when you think about it.

I'm an anime fan, and the influence of Slayers can be easily found in my work if you've seen the series.  I'm also a fan of Record of Lodoss War, Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, and Dragon Ball Z.  Along with anime, I enjoy video games as well, mostly taking the form of Role Playing Games.  Actually, in all honesty, I haven't touched my Playstation in over two months  (My name is Michael and I am an RPG-aholic) due to massive work overload.  To be honest, I thought I would create a lot more free time when I simply cut video games out of the picture, but since I still have absolutely no time, I guess I didn't play that much to begin with.  Go figure.

I enjoy listening mostly to Classic Rock, most notably Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dire Straights and Jethro Tull, and other bands such as Steely Dan and Dave Mathew's Band.  I'm kind of a music person, too.  I play Euphonium, Trombone and Piano in various bands including Jazz Band and Concert Band.  What?  You don't know what a Euphonium is?  You uncivilized cretin!  Get off of my page, right now!  Actually, I get this question a lot, so I'll try to get a picture of one so you can see just what the hell I'm talking about.

Now, onto some more obscure stuff.  I am, from what people have told me judging from my debating, a Republican (I can see Nanaki cringing already).  Unfortunately for my sanity, I don't really fit into this category completely as I'm pro-choice, pro-gun control and anti-school vouchers, and what not.  However, as someone once put it, Republicans don't let you live for yourself, they force you to live for yourself.  Let me be blunt, I like money.  Money is cool stuff.  You can buy stuff with it.  In fact, with enough of it, you can buy lots of stuff.  So, why should my money disappear to feed people living on the streets of the city or to support people who are otherwise unproductive members of society.  I am a capitalist and I'm proud to admit it.  Don't take my money from me, Democrats, I'll take a tax cut any day, thank you very much.

If you want to know what I look like, you're in luck as I plan on putting up pictures of myself, I just don't currently own a scanner....or a decent picture of myself.  Anyway, once both of those become accessible to me, you can marvel at the very image that is me....or something like that.

My social policies?  Against what a lot of people that I've met in the fan fiction community think, I'm not against drinking.  Mind you, I hardly go out and get smashed every Friday or/and Saturday, but I hardly judge people by it, nor am I intolerant of it.  Maybe all you should understand something.  I don't know what it's like in your section of the country, but up here, under-age drinking is rampant.  If you were to say, "I'm only going to have friends that don't drink," you will be very unpopular.  The same goes with smoking weed.  If you've read The Planeswalkers, you'll know that I sort of except it as part of high school society.  I've never been high in my life (though I'm high on life, mind you), it's quite common and I don't lie when I write.

Anything else?  Oh, I'd like to add that I'm not a social reject nor a social reject living in denial by saying that I'm not a social reject.  I have many friends (yes, guys and girls), and I tend to go out with them on weekends.  So, for all of you who think I have nothing better to do than write fiction and manage this site, I laugh at you (I have a girlfriend = I am cool).  Ha!  Ha!  Ha!  And, that's enough of that.  Maybe I'll just go an write another book and I'll feel better...
